Update, July 3, 2019 (6:50 pm ET): Facebook hasn’t announced that today’s image problem is fixed, but it appears as though things are almost back to normal. You can likely expect to see some hiccups through the end of the day as the fix is rolled out more widely.

Facebook is one of those services that is hard to live without. You probably use the app to connect to friends, family, coworkers, and the occasional frenemy, so it’s hard to bounce back when you find Facebook not working correctly anymore. Fortunately, there are a few easy steps you can take to resolve and/or work around some of the more common Facebook issues you’re likely to encounter. We’ve also included a couple of bonus features at the end as well!
Is Facebook not working for you? If so, there’s an immediate workaround available — Facebook’s mobile site. This is a lightweight, mobile browser-optimized app that can give you almost everything the Facebook app can give you — including notifications. Indeed, some folks rely entirely on the Facebook mobile app, and have uninstalled the Facebook app altogether. This can help conserve battery life on your phone as well. In fact, we have a whole list of Facebook alternative apps.
Facebook not working? Make it work
But, let’s assume that you actually want the app to work as advertised. There are a few things you can do to get things back up and running in that event.
First, make sure the app is fully updated in the Google Play store. Facebook frequently pushes out updates to its app for security updates and bug fixes. As a result, older versions of the app can cease to function. First, open Android’s settings and check your available storage. If your device has less than 100 MB of storage available, you may need to clear some space to allow the app to update.
![Facebook Games Not Loading 2018 Facebook Games Not Loading 2018](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/7p773_UmHiA/maxresdefault.jpg)
You can also cancel and restart the download of the update. If that doesn’t help, log out of the Facebook app and then try the download once more. If it’s not working, Google Play has a list of steps you can follow to troubleshoot the download of an app.
If that fails, you can try uninstalling the Facebook app, restarting your device, and reinstalling the app from the Play store. Alternatively, you can download the latest Facebook APK file from Facebook at the link.
Turn on automatic updates
To make sure you’re always using the latest version of the Facebook app, turn on automatic updates for the app. To do so, open the Google Play Store app and search for Facebook. Once you select it, tap the ellipsis in the upper right corner of the app page and place a check mark in the auto-update box.
Notifications aren’t working
Notifications are what let you know what’s happening on Facebook. When they stop working, it can be a headache. First, make sure you have notifications enabled on a system level. Those are found in your device’s settings. Typically you’ll go to Settings > Applications > Facebook > Notifications. Make sure Facebook is allowed to post notifications. If it is, check notification settings in the app to make sure they’re set properly. Tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines), select the “Settings and Privacy” option located under “Help and Support,” and then scroll down and tap the “Notification Settings.” From here, you can adjust what notifications you get and how you are notified.
Bonus #1 — Privacy
Not long ago, Facebook made headlines because of the permissions it was asking for. As a result, Facebook detailed exactly what permissions it was asking for and why.
The takeaway here is that, basically, app developers need to access many facets of a phone’s ecosystem in order to function normally. It is certainly wise to know why those permissions are being sought. But there are three things to keep in mind:
1. Just because an app needs to access your camera, does not mean that the company will be watching you taking a shower.
2. If a company is reputable, it’s probably Okay. Having said that…
3. It is your right and privilege to ask those privacy questions.
Bonus #2 — Beta Testing
Want to try the latest and greatest that Facebook has to offer? Facebook has a public beta system you can sign up for. It’s important to note that like any beta program, there may be issues with the app, and Facebook warns it’ll probably update the app several times per week. If all that sounds OK, you can go to this link and sign into the Google Play store (if necessary). Once there, tap “Become a Beta Tester.” Note, once you are signed into Google Play, clicking the “Become a Beta Tester” button actually puts you into the program — there’s no confirmation dialogue or anything.
If you want to leave the beta tester program, that link is here. It’s the same deal — clicking on the link removes you from the program. There’s no confirmation dialog.

The best 10 free Facebook games
1. Candy Crush Saga
The basic premise of one of the most popular games on Facebook is easy: switch the positions of two adjacent candies to form a line of 3 or more candies of the same color. Match more than 3 at a time to create special candies that will help you clear more candy off the board and boost your score! As you progress, though, you will have to fulfil specific tasks to clear levels and deal with a host of delectable obstacles that block your way. And new levels are added frequently for more candy-crushing fun!

If you’re the gambling type, this poker simulator from Zynga is one of the most popular Facebook games of its kind. And don’t worry – you won’t have to gamble away your actual money, because you get chips to start for free!
4. Pet Rescue Saga
This is another one of the top Facebook games from King Digital Entertainment, the makers of Candy Crush Saga. Not so fast – you only have a limited number of moves per level, and progressively more difficult obstacles will bar your way. So you’ll have to think carefully and plan ahead! Compete with your friends to see who can get the highest score on each level!
5. Words With Friends
Based on the classic board game Scrabble, this game challenges you to expand your personal dictionary and play strategically! Form words using the letters in your hand and the ones that are already on the board, taking advantage of special board spaces to increase your score! Practice in Solo Play, and then take on an opponent of similar skill with Smart Match. Or use Community Match to play against a friend! Detailed statistics keep track of your wins and losses, scoring, and even the complexity of your words!

How sharp are your powers of observation and logic? You’ll find out as you become a detective working for the Grimsborough Police in one of the best free games on Facebook. 8. Angry Birds Friends

What Facebook Instant Games are and how to play them
Facebook “Instant Games” are games that are simple enough that they can be played right on the Facebook media platform. You may need to install the Adobe Flash Player plug-in on your browser for some of them to work, but you won’t need to install Gameroom (more on that later) or any other software.
All of the games in our list above are Instant Games. If you’d like to play any others, here’s how to do so.
To play Instant Games on Facebook:
- Go to facebook.com and log into your account.
- In the left-hand menu on your News Feed, click Games. If you don’t initially see it, click See More and it should show up.
- Next, click Game Store in the left-hand menu.
- Here, you can see all of the games available through Facebook. Click Top Charts to see the most popular games. Or, check out the Casual, Battle, or Casino menus to see the top games of those genres, along with available sub-genres if you’re looking for something more specific.
You can also click See More beside any category or genre menu, or click the grey genre tab beside or below any game, to see more games of that type. Or, if you’re looking for a particular game, click in the box labelled “Search for Games” and type in the name of the game you’re looking for. When you find a game that you like, click on its icon or name.
- When you select a game, a window will pop up with some basic information about the game; click Read More if you want more details. A bunch of other options will appear, too. If the Play Now option appears, it means that this is an Instant Game. Click this option to begin playing.
Pro Tip: When you play a game on Facebook, the game will usually ask for access to some of your user information. Move your mouse cursor over the “i” highlighted in the screenshot above to get a general breakdown of what information the game is asking for. You can also click Review/Edit the Info You Provide to see some of the specific information that will be given to the game if you play it.
In some cases, you may be able to disallow a game from accessing certain parts of your profile. Otherwise, if you are uncomfortable with giving a game the information that it asks for, you can edit your profile or change your privacy settings to limit the amount of public information about yourself available on Facebook. Or, just don’t play that particular game.
How to play Facebook games on Gameroom
Gameroom is Facebook’s game management system, similar to Steam (from Valve Software) and Origin (from Electronic Arts). You will need to download and install it to play some of the more hardware-intensive games on Facebook, but you can use it to play a lot of the Instant Games, too.
Note that, currently, your computer has to be running Windows 7 (or any later version of the Windows OS) for Gameroom to work. It won’t work on Mac or Linux operating systems for now.
To install Facebook Gameroom:
- Log into your facebook.com account.
- Click Games in the left-hand menu.
- Click Download Gameroom.
- Click Free Install.
- Click Save File in the window that pops up, select where you want to save the Gameroom installer, and click Save. Then find and open the installer.
Once you have Gameroom installed, you can play games from Facebook straight from it while you have it open. However, you can also send games from Facebook to Gameroom and start playing them even if Gameroom isn’t currently running. The process is very similar to playing Instant Games, but the last couple of steps are a bit different.
How to send a game from Facebook to Gameroom
- Go to facebook.com and log in.
- When you reach your News Feed, click Games.
- Click Game Store (as if you were going to play an Instant Game).
- Find a game to play and click on it. Then click Play on Gameroom.
- In the window that pops up, click Facebook Gameroom and then click Open Link.
Gameroom should open automatically, and your game should start shortly thereafter.
